The Boys star Erin Moriarty, known for her role as Annie January/Starlight, was diagnosed with Graves' disease in May 2025, an autoimmune condition impacting her thyroid. Prior to this, she dealt with intense online bullying and speculation regarding her appearance, which she addressed, later returning to social media to promote the show's final season.
There's a scene where she's talking and her face is in like a fixed position, her lips were barely moving. It was sort of unsettling because it was clearly a side effect of her face being paralyzed from plastic surgery and botox
I just watched a clip from season 5 on YouTube, yup. She's got this little bit of a slur and the facial movements are very reduced, giving a send of paralysis.
to compare her facial movements to the other actress. you can see one face with muscles moving like a normal person and the other face is just....stuck. very sad with it being either an ailment or bad surgery.
From what I read she also might have a thyroid issue which results in dramatic weight swings, so it’s possible there is a mix of plastic surgery and weight fluctuations in the newer pictures
I can absolutely promise you without a shadow of a doubt that her face doesn't get like that from weight loss. That's buccal fat removal (maybe) and cheek fillers (definitely 100%).
Buccal fat removal is one of the worst procedures I think you could get, but that might be because I've never seen anyone who didn't come out looking gaunt and horsey.
It must be hard to be legitimately beautiful (…I wouldn’t know) and be surrounded by people who look worse than you telling you constantly how you could look better.
It’s not that they think the end result is beautiful, it’s that their sense of self is so warped that they think their real look is somehow worse than that overly fake look. Like, she might not love her new nose but she probably thinks her old nose was even worse. Plastic surgeons can’t remove what isn’t there so they keep hacking away at imagined flaws, leaving them butchered.
One of the most popular shows in TV is Nip Tuck and I think that although it started out showing you the horrors of plastic surgery as a business it eventually glorifies it to an extent. A lot of FX shows start out that way.
You have press and public constantly commenting on your appearance, you land a gig that pays fuck you money, and you don't have a healthy support structure around you due to the fuck you money who may want a slice.
I have a feeling it has something to do with longevity. Maybe some convinced her to get it done now so aging is less noticeable? Looks horrible unfortunately. Also, I don't know shit about shit so..
Hard to be sure these days, but there was a whole media flap about it, and she said it was extensive makeup rather than claiming it was fake, so I don't think so.
She also has Graves disease which is making it look worse. More recent photos seem to show that most of her sunken in cheek look was the result of the graves and not buccal fat removal as people thought, which is good because surgical fat removal is almoay always irreversible.
Edit: apparently I have to clarify this because Reddit is here have the reading comprehension skills of a fucking moss covered rock. I am not saying she hasn't had work done. She clearly has. I don't think she should have. But the pictures that show her looking her worst, are 100% affected by a condition that is made to look even worse because the foundation on which that work was done changed. It's basically a more complicated version of the same thing where if you get a tattoo and then you get fat it looks like shit
My sister in law has graves and she looked emaciated when it first kicked in. It aged her twenty years and sunk in her cheeks, making her look skeletal.
The sad thing is if you will watch the prior seasons of this show, you will come to know that she is an amazing actress like a straight A+ lister level and so is the guy playing Homelander(Antony Starr)
She wasn't just pretty she knew how to act
She ruined her entire career because of this stupidity
This guy's comment is very mean, but it is also true in a sense, an actress career is entirely dependent on her attractiveness
It’s crazy that these agents keep pushing these plastic surgery trends when the people who pay to see these folks keep telling Hollywood we actually hate it when they look like this. It must be to appease other celebs cause it’s certainly not for our regular working class eyeballs
Is that really what she looks like now or is the look related to the show? I know she got Botox /plastic surgery. But this looks even more different than what I saw
It's not as bad as people say, but she does have Mar-a-Lago face imho. People are sad because she was honestly always a natural beauty. I don't think it's nice to shame her regardless, but yeah... some people don't feel good about themselves even when they're objectively beautiful, especially in modern Hollywood.
This is the first scene we see her in, there are others. The cleavage goes away, the face remains the same.
We had a viewing party yesterday to watch the first episode, her face got a negative response almost immediately, to the point we had to rewind the scene to figure out what the hell she was going on about cause we'd spent like three minutes on the state of her face.
Buccal fat removal is a mind poison spread by plastic surgeons. I haven't seen a single celebrity it didn't turn ghoulish.
I don't think he cares that much about being presentable and it's great. But to compare what a 30 year old female dramatic actress gets away with versus with a comedic male actor who's been in the game for 30 years as a heavier person can do is pointless.
Not just any heart attack, he had the widowmaker, a 100% blockage of his left anterior descending artery, those usually just outright kill people, hence the nickname. He made a concerted effort to lose weight and improve his lifestyle. That heart attack was a wake up call but if he didn’t fix his habits in his lifestyle, he was gonna end up dead.
He said it totally shifted his attitude towards food as well. He used to eat his feelings, but what he ate made him feel bad. Now he eats to feel better because he’s making the smart healthy choices. He’s more or less vegetarian now.
I don’t spend much time looking in the mirror. I do when I shave or floss. Otherwise me and my hair have an understanding… I don’t fuck with you and you don’t fuck with me.
My best example for this is arnold Schwarzenegger:
He mentioned in interviews that he would sometimes look in the mirror after winning Mr. Olympia and feel disgusted or see flaws, thinking, "How did this pile of st win?"
Bro won the who has the best body in the world contest and still thinks he looks like shit.
You can literally be the most attractive person in the world and have body dysmorphia.
When you're in Hollywood, you will NEVER stop chasing that dragon if you are young enough, beautiful enough, and talented enough. It consumes you until there's nothing left. You see all these brand new up and coming stars slowly getting drained over the years.
I feel so bad for this girl. Who the fuck is around to tell her, she's enough? 🥲 Now you have a shit ton of people telling her, "I hate your face."
Iirc there's a big moment in the early episodes where Vought redesigns her outfit from a pretty, innocent look to a much more revealing and sexualised one. At some PR event, there's a little girl who's dressed up in her old outfit. I don't remember what happened exactly but Starlight basically says fuck it and changes back into her old outfit, because she wants to be herself and set an example instead of being a sexualised doll for marketing purposes.
Soooo ye basically the real life actress kinda did the opposite of her character.
I do feel like they have written her out of the show as much as they can. Her scenes with Hughie are where I tune out. I know Hughie is dating Victoria, so I was shipping that more because they actually have chemistry.
they even deliberately played it down in the new season. he was talking to a prisoner about the awful shit that's happened to him and casually at the end was like, "oh and I had to sit on a cake once"
The saddest part is that she is actually realizing what she did and isn't saying "oh, fans are overreacting" anymore. And now, she tries to somehow fix it with more surgeries, which is even sadder because what can she even do at this point?
I would hope that maybe, after a few years, the buccal fat comes back a little. Or that it can be reversed through surgery? I feel like some of the celebs who you notice at first as having it maybe look a little more normal now? It's hard to point out an example.
She vehemently denied having done any plastic surgery, and that her medical condition was the cause for her change in look. I'm just genuinely curious, does Grave's cause such drastic, structural facial changes over what appears to be in the span of just a couple of years?
I have graves as well and it definitely contributed to a huge change in the appearance of my face. It makes me look gaunt, sallow, and tired, much like her.
It’s pretty obvious she tried to course correct with fillers, which just made her look gaunt with filler. The nose job, probably attributable to her nit picking her face after all the sudden changes and coming to the wrong conclusion on what she needed to fix.
Friend of mine went through this with a similar change. Ended up with her eyes looking a bit more sunken and overall face shape change like you see her. Took a while, but some of the effects reversed eventually.
Graves disease is usually super treatable (I have it), but like most things, it can get a lot worse for some people. It's basically just an overactive thyroid, but there can be complications ranging from sight loss to organ failure from a "thyroid storm". To my knowledge though, it doesn't present with side effects that give the appearance of modern plastic surgery.
Not sure why she felt she needed to have surgery. I thought she was one of the most beautiful young actresses. Must have body dysmorphic disorder or something.
Probably felt pressured to please the "powers that be."
Hollyweird is run by a cabal of perverts that treat women like objects, just like American industry and government. This is just the West Coast version of Mar-a-Lago Face.
The irony of this kills me. That's literally the kind of shit her character struggles with in the show. If that's really the case, it's disappointing to see the actress fell for the same traps her character warns against.
oh fuck right off with that shit, its not even the men who make the women get these shit surgeries, its the women themselves. At no point has a straight man ever told a woman you know what, i think you'd look better if we enhance your cheekbones and remove the fat from your cheeks.. at least not without it being followed by "with mah dick!!"
This happened with Millie Booby Brown in the last season of stranger things, just couldn't take any scene with her in seriously because she looks so......weird.....
she was on Jimmy Kimmel a couple weeks ago and looks a lot more like her old self. I believe she has Graves which can't help. To me she just looks like a 7 years older version of herself.
It’s incredibly vicious and uncalled for when it comes to this woman especially. Not only does she have a literal disease she can’t control, but the jokes and general cruelty have been nonstop for like five years already. At a certain point you have to stop beating a dead horse.
And when people say “oh we’re just raising awareness about the dangers of plastic surgery,” it’s such bullshit in this case. A lot of the people on this thread are just enjoying being mean, and they know it.
This is what Hollywood does to people. They’re all in this bubble and think this what people find attractive. They have all these people telling them what to look like not realizing they already made it based on what they look like.
