Confusing thread for me. I weigh 50kg-ish and can easily lose 3kg in a week. I'll put it on again later as water weight and then continue that cycle. Hasn't really changed that much when I ran the gamut of 45-70kg. I'd still easily fluctuate that much from week to week
You can’t lose 3kg in a week and you aren’t “gaining” it all back in water weight. Here’s the thing that confuses everyone and makes them quit early. Your body will hold about 2-4kg of food and water and poop/partially digested food as it moves through your digestive system over several days. If you go on a really harsh diet for a week, you will empty yourself of all of that and be 2-4kg lighter, but your physiology will not change at all. Most people will falter off their diet for a day or two and the weight will appeared to have gained back, though it’s just same weight of food and water in your body. Now, if you stay in a calorie deficit(you shouldn’t be totally empty of food though) your body will eventually adapt to your new maintenance weight, although it will be difficult and take a few months. Nothing ever happens on a week by week scale at the start.
... sure. That's why I ran the gamut of 45-70kg, and even at those low weights, there was still a fluctuation of 3kg from 'normal' at any given moment. Consider 'water weight' a synonym for 'any weight fluctuation unrelated to long-term trends because it is a constant, i.e., <3kg from week to week'
Yeah i never understood in shows and stuff they are proud of losing like 5-10 pounds im just thinking that its water weight recently eaten food or any of a million factors. I honestly just dont think weight is very precise beyond 3-6 kg differences
I bet muscle has more to do with it. Your average woman stays fit by restricting calories rather than building any kind of muscle, so everything she carries weight-wise will just be fat on bone.
We scanned our bone density in a biomedicine science class, and the highest bone density in the class was a woman. I don’t think this is a reliable source of body mass difference.
Women have a higher essential body fat level (10-13% on average) compared to men (around 2-5%). This is largely due to hormonal and reproductive needs and it creates a built-in difference of roughly 4-8% in minimum body fat levels, though in practice the visible difference is often larger due to fat distribution, muscle mass, and bone density differences as you said.
Just a little nuance for anyone who is entertained by it. My comment here might even be a little oversimplified, but that's the gist.
And one more small note: If you have ever seen or met women with extreme physiques, you'll know that they likely don't get a period and feel like absolute shit every day. Their bodies are literally functioning outside of the normal range.
Also that woman is for sure 90+ kg at least likely to be 100+, absolutely no fucking way she's 65 kg / normalweight. Source: I have been 85 kg and hit the "obese" bmi category before starting to lose weight, looked a hell of a lot slimmer that that and I don't work out (163 cm)
I'm just under 69 currently and look slim at 167cm, belly starting to look minor dumpy but can hide it with jeans. Friend at work is same weight but shorter by just a little bit and is chubbier looking. Height makes a big difference.
Nah, I'm 154cm and weigh 75kg right now and I look nothing like the woman in the picture. I don't even look that big in my opinion, just normal, more on the chubbier size xd
Still no. Looking at the upper body, the belly pouch, hips - no way. That's a body that's solidly obese, approaching morbidly obese. You can Google "150 cm 65 kg woman", lots of different bodies come up, some fit some not, all of them very signifcantly slimmer.
It's harmful to distort what a healthy weight looks like
This is definitely an exaggeration but you can google image search same height and weight and see people who look shockingly different at the same weight.
Men are in general more muscle heavy while women in general have more fat which is lighter than muscle so the same weight would in general have different volume in a guy vs a girl
Okay, the reason for this is because as women, we carry more body fat than men carry body fat. For example, a woman's healthy body is 20 to 30 percent body fat. A man's healthy body is 10 to 20 percent body fat.
And another reason for this is because women have wider hips, aka for childbirth. And we have less muscle mass than men, so that's why a man could look very skinny at the same weight of a woman.It's not just about height.And another thing, the way that men store body fat and the way that women store body fat is completely different from each other. So, for example, a lot of women would store body fat in their thighs and hips, while men are completely different. And another thing, also hormones are a big factor of this as well. 🤓☝🏼
Also men have higher bone density on average so if a man and a woman had the same height and build as each other the man would still usually be a little heavier than the woman because of bones.
And another thing muscle is heavier than fat for the same volume so if a muscular and an obese person weigh the same the obese person would be bigger in volume than the muscular person.
Bone density would only explain 1-2kg at most. Bone volume including bone marrow can explain bit more but it is mainly down to muscles and build differences.
Depends on the height honestly but you'd have to be pretty tall to be this skinny at 65kg, for comparison I'm 180cm (5'11) and weight less despite being around as skinny
Sure, but if the picture is a comparison, I think it's fair to assume that the heights are also represented proportionally in the image.
So it's not so much a depends on the height thing. It's more is a man who is only slightly taller than a woman who weighs 65kg with that build, going to weigh 65kg with that build. And I would say probably not.
Same here. I’m 150cm tall and my highest weight was 75kg, and even at that weight I was classified as obese and visibly chubby but not as fat as the woman in the picture.
people really don't know how weight looks on women. i knew this already from my irl experiences but the number of people INSISTING that that is what a woman 20 pounds heavier than me and damn near my height looks like is crazy
Depends on height, I have two female acquaintances, botht he same weight, one is 5cm taller than me, the other is 10cm shorter. The shorter one looks exactly like the pic, the taller one looks fairly average.
Yes, I can explain: drawings exaggerate and take shortcuts, making them a poor reflection of reality, and an easy way to play up seeming contradictions.
1.Women generally have a wide pelvis.
2. Less muscle due to estrogen (( it's hard for them to build muscle. If you see a muscular women that means she worked extremely hard.))
3. Body fats are essential for them for hormonal regulation and reproductive health.
