Saw a dude use duster and lost consciousness, pissed himself, appeared to have a seizure and then wake up and do it again. Everyone in the room thought it was funny. I realized I needed to distance myself from those people.

To be fair, I was in culinary arts at a technical high school at 15 and would have killed for one of these for fresh whipped cream. 39 year old me wonders if those flavored cartridges make flavored whipped cream.
A couple months ago at Walmart I saw someone sucking on a giant galaxy gas tank at the self checkout. I usually don’t stare or judge people but I had a visceral reaction
At Starbucks they use the vanilla coffee syrup in their whipped cream. You could probably get some of those syrups for coffee at the grocery store and make flavored whipped cream.
I never heard it like that. The closest thing I can compare it to would be like hearing a gas well pumping from miles away, sounds kinda like a rapid beating drum way off in the distance.
It's the sound of your brain being starved of oxygen. Not unlike the sensation of drowning. I've partaken a few times in my youth. Not something you want to do when you are doing anything other than sitting on a couch or bed. Case in point, my cousin was driving down the highway with friends while doing whippets. He passed out at the wheel and hit a car head on. He was the only survivor and is now paralyzed below the waist.
I’ve heard of people doing this and can’t imagine thinking it would be an idea at all. Like you are literally passing out for a while. How could you think that passing out while driving is a thing that would end well?
If you're already doing wippets your critical thinking is already out the window. Said as someone who partook in many recreational substances who made some poor choices in my youth.

I've had to give oxygen therapy to these individuals to help replace that which was lost in a CNS depressive state. Sometimes you will get this really weird wub wub sound in your head after you take a fat rip and hold it. It’s actually a symptom of something called “brain hypoxia”. It’s the literal sound of brain cells dying. Nitrous is an anesthetic dissociative, and it can affect the way your brain receives sensory input. This triggers auditory hallucinations and kills brain cells by the millions.
Huffing nitrous oxide. It's readily available in compressed gas tubes for use in whipped cream canisters. This particular canister is not for making whipped cream.
I have a whipped cram canister that is almost identical to this, the only difference is the stupid skull sticker and being located in a 15 yr old's backpack. I absolutely make flavored whipped cream with mine. Rum whipped cream over pumpkin pie is one of the greatest things ever.
Yeahhh this is extremely dangerous tbh. I’d rather find Molly on my baby brother than whippets. I found out he did it once with his friends and blew up on him. Whippets are literally the dumbest thing ever to get high because it’s so damaging for literally nothing.
I’m so sorry for your loss. That’s my biggest nightmare is losing someone to this extremely stupid way to get high. It’s insane they sell these at smoke shops and gas stations and it doesn’t even require ID.
Ugh. My ex had a roommate that literally just sat in her room doing whippets all day. We dated for almost two years and every time I went over, you could constantly hear her doing whippets literally for hours and hours at a time. She had industrial sized garbage bags filled with used whippet canisters and I’ll never forget those huge bags rattling when she would bring them down the stairs to the trash. There’s no way she’s still alive.
My aunt died from whippets, she was 12 and doing them with her friends. She passed out, and they panicked and left her there (in my grandma's basement) and she choked on her own vomit while unconscious and passed.
Oh, that's awful. Your poor family. Kids are dumb, dangerously so at times, but it's still a tragedy that can effect many for a lifetime. Hope your relatives were able to find peace.
I have a brother who is struggling massively with addiction and I had a dad who also struggled but came out the other end and is clean 5 years. The one advice I can give anyone who has a loved one also affected by addiction is to approach it from a place of love. I can't tell you how many arguments and physical fights i got into with my brother and every single time it made the situation worse. I never had a shouting match that had a positive outcome. Getting angry and fighting it head on isn't the way and will only inflict more pain. It's difficult to keep composure in these situations but its doable.
Constantly reminding them that they're loved, they belong and that they can find happiness and peace without the substance they're abusing was how i broke through to my brother. Obviously every situation is different and every person is unique so not every approach will work. But fighting fire with fire is a losing battle. Remind him he can trust you and that you're concerned, not angry, but worried. I wish you and your brother the very best.
Man I’m telling you..get him to stop it. I started doing whippets around 18, and I went way overboard. I never had a setup like this. In my thirties now, I regret it. Messed up a lot of things for me. Gave me headaches. I used to do them and drive. And pass out some times. Long term effects are nothing to fuck around with.

I was on Acid one night and I was doing whippets, I cracked two canisters into a balloon, exhaled every last bit that I could, and then inhaled as much of that balloon as I could hold in my lungs, and I held it in until I passed out. I woke up to my girlfriend screaming and hysterical because she thought I had died. I laid awake for the next 6 hours or so still tripping on Acid, and I have never done anything since.
OP, please show all these comments to your brother. Don’t attack him. Come from a place of love. Just take it from me bro. Whippets were only a part of my life for maybe 2-3 years, and it easily set me back more than anything else I ever did.

At least 3 different kids at my high school crashed their cars while doing whippets. One was hitting a balloon and driving with a full sized tank in the back seat, the tank flew forward and embedded itself in the center console of the car when he hit a tree. The pics were crazy
Genuinely never understood the urge or lack of foresight to do this combo. The effects seem completely incompatible with keeping a car in the road. Even at my "I'm invincible" peak and in most risk taking days I was thinking "man, those kids are dumb as rocks"
I'm glad I don't know more about that shit other than no one thinks it's worth it which is an especially strong sign if you know people who do a lot of drugs. I've always assumed it was a horrible short term up-and-down experience which just doesn't appeal to me for a multitude of reasons, but I'm only now realizing I don't actually know.
One thing I do know is that the dude who discovered Michael Faraday, Sir Humphrey Davy, used to use that shit then go out into a room and give lectures, which I imagine could be difficult to maintain. It eventually killed him.
I remember not too long ago there was a company advertising their flavored canisters really hard. The ads were pretty inescapable showing how cool it was to have flavored whipped cream on your coffee and whatnot.
And the canisters were conveniently available at your local head shop, where all the fancy coffee snobs buy their supplies
They definitely aren't, but one time the prep cook at a restaurant I worked at went to the smoke shop next door to buy a scale. That was the best scale we ever had in that kitchen.

If these companies can find a loophole, they will. It’s constant. When I was in HS it was K2. Or “spice” like incense sprayed with chems that you would smoke. I was a big stoner, but smoking that stuff once had me rethink a lot.
3000g tanks with handles used to be sold at the green leaf here. This shit got soo bad at my job that the entire night crew was doing them constantly. I had one coworker talking about how he does it driving and would pass out randomly but hadn't gotten into an accident yet... like it was normal.
Yeah, it’s because during Covid. No kids learned how to source real drugs from actual people in real life. so they ended up finding whatever shit they can get in the store like whippets and that nasty dust off shit. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I was looking at Uber Eats last year in downtown LA, and the most purchased item from one of the convenience. Stores in the area was dust off. Someone would crack a tank and that sound would instantly command a crowd. There would be dozens of balloons sold within minutes they were just going as fast as they could trying to fill balloons before security came.
I tried it a couple/few times, we sat in my friends truck. He had experience doing it. He said wrap the end of the balloon around your fingers so if you pass out you don’t let go of the balloon and lose all the NO2 lol, we finished our balloons and I enjoyed it but fortunately never got hooked on it. Just more of a novelty to me like yeah fuck it I’ll do a balloon.
You could go into any head shop and buy a shitload of whipits.

To elaborate... it's not that the compresses gas itself is cold. It's room temperature. But when it rapidly expands it cool due to thermodynamics. The ideal gas law might make you think it heats up, actually -- PV = nRT, and Volume goes up bigly.
What happens, though, is the gas expands and does work on the air around you and loses a lot of energy in the process, cooling rapidly.
I just had to explain these dangers to my girlfriend. she burned herself on the tank because it got that cold. she was getting these tanks from a nearby head shop and ripping hits right off the nozzle like a dumbass.
maybe it was just my experience with the people I knew at the time, but doing nitrous all these dangers were explained, maybe because the tanks we were getting were from an illicit source? and the bodily dangers were a part of the teaching alongside the legal dangers?
I unfortunately have a friend who got himself into nitrous and became severely addicted over the past year and ended up in the hospital due to abuse side effects. His voice started permanently changing and he had lung and heart problems. Luckily he's off it, but man, it's no good.
