discussion The Chicks : Goodbye Earl appreciation post
https://youtu.be/Gw7gNf_9njs?si=Id25GwDSCkZhX24P
I’m gonna age myself here, but I was in high school when this song came out and it changed my life. It taught me that there were men that beat women, which I didn’t really know much about at the time, fortunately-(yet that would soon change-like obviously I’m a woman in America).
It taught me that the strength of women united can overcome anything.
And it taught me that friendships are more meaningful than just about anything else we have in this world.
I don’t want the next generation to miss this gem, this song centers and focuses me in today’s tornado of pedophiles rapist and abusers. What songs stuck with you like this?
“Those black eyed peas! Tasted alright to me…”
discussion Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke” is such an irresistible celebration of music.
Lyrically, I just love Stevie Wonder pays tribute to the musicians who inspired him. There’s a sense of gratitude to the song on top of how bright and bouncy it is. The rhythms and key changes are technically complex, but it sounds so effortless.
It is a song that just makes me appreciate how music can bring generations and different cultures together. The song is light and playful but feels important. I actually heard it for the first time on the “Spider-Man 2” DVD trailer for the Will Smith comedy “Hitch,” of all places!
”Music is a world within itself with a language we all understand.”
”There’s Basie, Miller, Satchmo, and the king of all Sir Duke. And with a voice like Ella’s ringing out, there’s no way the band could lose.”
”You can feel it all over! You can feel it all over people!”

discussion Bill Ackman just bid $64 billion for Universal Music Group. Nobody is talking about what it means for AI music. They should be.
Ackman wants to buy UMG, move it from Amsterdam to the NYSE, sell its $3 billion Spotify stake, and install Michael Ovitz as chairman.
Most coverage focuses on the stock price. But UMG is also the company that sued Suno and Udio for $500 million, settled with Udio under a "walled garden" where nothing can be downloaded, and is currently in a standoff with Suno over whether AI music can be freely distributed or has to stay locked inside apps.
Bloomberg says the bid does not add up because AI is "creating doubts about the industry's future." Ackman says music catalogs are undervalued IP assets. Both cannot be right.

I met a real cool girl who liked a lot of great punk bands, but she was kind of young, and didn’t know what Ska was.
I learned about Ska, Oi!, Punk rock, and hard-core punk all at the same time. Thanks to an older brother.
If you like any of the aforementioned types of music check this out if you haven’t heard of Ska.
