Welcome WELCOME TO SNORKBLOT!

Greetings and welcome to Snorkblot. We're a somewhat quirky subreddit that provides an eclectic mix of content, everything from history to philosophy to cute cat videos.
***OUR STRENGTH IS OUR COMMUNITY! Please participate!***We want your posts, your comments, and whatever other input you'd like to add. We LOVE the interchange of ideas at Snorkblot. We may not agree with you, but we want you to say your mind.
*****HOWEVER:*****Please remember the rules. We don't do personal attacks, and try to steer clear of snarky comments (unless they are on the lighter, funny side). If you do these things, you will get a warning, and so forth.
ALSO, Please, We're trying to post all politics in the Political Megathread. If you post something political on our main page, it will be removed.
There's a lot of political talk going on these days. We welcome civil political debate and posts in the Megathread. We removed almost all politics from our main page because it was threatening to take over our site. We aren't a political site and we intend to keep our original vibe and purpose on our main page.
In addition to the regular posts, we also have recurring features;
Open Forum Fridays (Fridays). We kick off every weekend with an OFF party, where everyone is encouraged to talk about whatever they want. The host will also pick a topic for the coming week (the "Weekly Theme"); users are then encouraged to come up with posts in the following week that explore that theme in some way.
10 Images From Thubanstar's Hard Drive (Wednesdays). This is a lot of fun. Every Wednesday, 'Star shares with us haunting, funny, or odd images she's encountered online.
The Glass Box. (Once a month, following the monthly staff meeting). This is a post discussing news about Snorkblot, including what the moderation team has been up to. Everyone's encouraged to discuss the topics raised, mods and regular members both.
Member Essays. We encourage any and all Snorkblot members to write essays about almost anything they feel passionate about. Rules of common sense apply.
Merchandise! Look sharp both physically and mentally with our own Snorkblot t-shirts, designed by Thubanstar and GrimSpirit42. Here's links for THIS t-shirt, THAT t-shirt, and ANOTHER t-shirt!

A Brief History of Snorkblot:
There was a site called I Am Bored. It ran for over a decade, entertaining the world with all kinds of posts guaranteed to cure boredom.
Then on January 30, 2019, it abruptly disappeared. One former Moderator, Squrlz4Ever, decided to come to Reddit and bring his merry band of Mods to start a very similar site called "Snorkblot".
We tip our hat to the Squirrel who brought us here in our banner, he is our mascot. However, we totally changed the name of the site to make sure people knew this was a new, better beginning to everyone's favorite cure for boredom.
********************************************
Enjoy your stay, keep your paws inside the vehicle, and by all means, have fun. If you like what you see, please subscribe. We'd love to have you.

OPEN FORUM FRIDAY Open Forum Friday, April 10., 2026: Observations from my trip home to my parents
Greetings ye fellow Snorkels. It is Friday and time for our Open Forum Friday, the weekly essay where the mods will talk about anything on their minds. Comments below are open for the community to likeways speak about anything on theirs.
Spring has returned with its light and pollen. Paper Towel Club, unite.

I went to visit my parents for Easter. These are my observations from the visit in no particular order:
My dad has started to walk with both hands behind his back, like an old man. Or Naruto. But I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know who Naruto is.
My parents keep talking about different people having kids. Most of them were still children when I moved away. I know rationally that most of them are close to thirty by now, but they still feel like children to me. Kids having kids. All I can picture is their fifth grade faces holding a baby doll.
Some things never change, like the buses or the thin roads following the mountains like rivers. But the location of the Europris store has changed three times. I still walk to the first location, remember, and then call my mom.
Granny still talks about the events surrounding my birth like it was yesterday’s gossip. The day before was the last time they saw my aunt’s boyfriend, but that’s beside the point.
My dad drives slowly to look at everything like it’s the first time. Especially when there are no other cars around and the weather is nice.
My mom answers the SnapChat family group like we’re not in the room next to her.
I do realise my family is weird. We did spend 40 minutes in complete silence one evening just consuming a bowl of popcorn and one of salt and pepper chips. No screens. No sound. In half darkness due to my sister’s light sensitivity. It was glorious.
My parents did react better to me telling them about my declining relationship than I feared. They still have hope where I have none, but I have sat with it for a while longer.
My mom will point to each house we pass while driving and inform me of the latest endeavours of each one. It is good that my parents have but few neighbours. My mom can't talk faster.
It was good to come home.
Returning was harder than expected.

Last week u/GrimSpirit42 gave us the theme SCORE.
Among my favourite submisions were:
Examples of hand written scores by noted composers from the Classical and Romantic periods posted by u/EsseNorway
QI | Origin of the James Bond Theme Tune
This weeks theme will be FORREST.Tag your submissions with the Weekly Theme flair.
I bid ye all a good weekend. See you all around in the comments.
