Wait, did you know that there's a direct correlation between the decline of Spirograph and the rise in gang activity? Think about it.

Can a correlation be direct or would that be a causation?

I'm irrationally upset that the top right leg sticks out further than the bottom right.

And the bottom right leg does not go to the baseline. It’s an awkward k

at 16s he messes up the pattern on the left side drives me crazy

That line pops so clearly in the final result. Just need to redo it. Can’t post it like this.

Then you probably shouldn't go back and watch the video and see the f****** he made on the left side after about the 6th or 7th pass...

Are you trying to write 'fuck up'? You can just write that on the internet.

Having done a lot of spirograph as a kid, I was waiting for the base pieces to shift slightly, or the pen to pop out of the circle. I rarely got a satisfying, symmetrical, complete image.

u/AbbeyRoadMoonwalk 4h ago
Or the damn circle to skip some teeth on the base pieces.

Is it magnets that hold the tracks in place? I was very worried it would slip

That’s why some of the first computer graphics software I wrote in the 1980s was on parametric curves to generate Spirograph-like images…

Having also done a lot of spirograph as a kid, I was waiting on the paper chewing up at a well trodden area.

He made a mistake :/

u/macrolith 5h ago
I would have made so many mistakes. Spirographs are really hard especially on convex shapes.

I love that he kept the mistakes in tbh, it's so realistic to the spirograph experience.

I would have fucked that up several times. My brain doesn't like that kind of super repetitive motion. Ever been going down a lot of stairs, and suddenly sort of forget how? It's like that.

u/AVTheChef 3h ago
This is why no matter what instrument I have tried I can't pick anything up. I can find a rythym for about 20 seconds amd then my brain/appendages seem to stall for half a second. Even with something like just clapping or tapping my foot...
9
u/OrangeLemonJuicey 6h ago
Ever been brushing your teeth and then had to consciously remember the motion like you’re piloting a mech suit for the first time? Same energy
6
u/whyliepornaccount 5h ago
wait, you mean to tell me people don't consciously think about brushing their teeth?
I have always basically planned out which tooth and at what angle I'm doing next in my head as I brush them. Is this not what everyone does?

I had no idea you could use a spirograph like this and now I need to know what other letters this person has made because my afternoon is gone.

i think everyone who finds this satisfying should just go out and get a kit. you can do something like this yourself with little to no effort for like $10.

What I want to know is, where’s the bit where you’re nearly done and the cog slips and completely ruins the entire thing? That was always my experience :-(

Spirographs are awesome but there's a point where there's too many lines and then, suddenly, not enough lines and then it happens again until the spirograph is 100% finished.
It's weird to explain? But there's like 3 stopping points for me where it looks ok but one more line or so and then you need to keep going until the next point.

The swirly complicated patterns on Banknotes used to be made in a very similar way, but with an engraving stylus. The machine was called a Rose Lathe.

I was scared it could be r/gifsthatendtoosoon
Step 1: Create custom feed with r/oddlysatisfying and r/gifsthatendtoosoon
Step 2: Browse it without looking which subreddit it's from
Step 3: Suffer.
